Press & Media Policy
When speaking to the general public, press or other media, Councillors should never:
a) Speak as if on behalf of the Town Council as a corporate body unless authorised to do so by either the clerk or the chairman. It is the responsibility of each Councillor to make it clear whether or not they are speaking in a personal capacity or on behalf of the Council;
b) Talk about staffing matters and other matters that are rightly confidential;
c) Attempt to undermine decisions the Town Council has already made;
d) Bring the Town Council into disrepute; and
e) Initiate contact with the media on matters relating to the Town Council without first advising the Chair/Vice Chair of the rationale behind the approach.
