Market Deeping Town Council - Amenities and Open Spaces Committee

Minutes of a meeting held on Wednesday 8 March 2023 at 7.00pm at the Town Hall, Market Deeping.

Cllr Broughton presided over Cllr Mrs Redshaw, Cllr Mrs Jones, Cllr Lester, Cllr Miss Collins and Cllr Shelton. The Clerk was also in attendance.

64.   Chairman’s Welcome

Cllr Broughton welcomed members to the meeting at 7.00 pm.  

65.   Apologies for absence 

There were no apologies for absence.

66.   Declarations of Interest under the Localism Act 2011   

There were no declarations of interest.

67.   Minutes of a meeting held on 11 January 2023

It was RESOLVED unanimously to accept the minutes of the meeting as a true and accurate record of the meeting. The Chairman signed the minutes.

68.   Clerk’s Report and update on work of parkkeepers

Members had received a copy of the report prior to the meeting.

Clerk’s and Park keeper’s report 8 March 2023

John Eve field

  • Wickstead have been approached to provide a quote for additional play equipment at John Eve Park
  • A quote is being sought for resurfacing underneath the swing area.
  • The Park keepers and Bob have sourced this year’s Christmas tree
  • A request has been received from the park keepers for the purchase of a hedge trimmer for cutting thicker branches it will cost £499 plus VAT. It was RESOLVED unanimously to purchase a heavy-duty rough cut hedge trimmer
  • Some dead trees have been removed from John Eve field adjacent to Oak Grove.  It was RESOLVED to replace these with half a dozen more mature trees in due course.

Town centre

  • A request has been received for a dog excrement bin on Millfield Road and the Park keepers reported a broken dog bin near the bench on Oak Grove.  It was RESOLVED to purchase a replacement dog bin for Oak Grove and Cllr Broughton stated that he would obtain a bin from SKDC for Millfield Road.

Clerk’s report

  • Julie O’Boyle has started back in the office and will be acting as Clerk for the AOS committee, from May onwards.
  • A quote has been received for the purchase of a new park keepers’ vehicle.  It will cost £26,339 plus VAT and the garage have offered £10,000 as a trade in figure.  It is a single cab option which will be more versatile. It was RESOLVED unanimously to purchase a new truck and to refer the matter to Full Council for ratification.

Litter bin on Church Street.  Forwarded to SKDC

It was RESOLVED unanimously to obtain a replacement bin from SKDC.

70.   Omega reports: Review of performance to date, budget/expenditure/income

The Clerk had provided members with a report prior to the meeting. Cllr Broughton asked members if there were any comments on the Omega report, and there were none.

71.    For members to application for Monkey challenge fitness equipment.

It was RESOLVED to invite Monkey challenge fitness to the next AOS meeting on 17 May 2023.

72. For members to consider and discuss any points raised in the Open Session

There were none.

73.    To consider items for inclusion on the agenda for the next meeting of Amenities and Open spaces committee, to be held at Town Hall Chambers on Wednesday 17 May at 7:00pm.

There being no other business, Cllr Broughton thanked everybody for their attendance and closed the meeting at 7.25 pm.
