21. Clerk’s report
The Clerk informed the members of the following:
Cemetery
• Since the last meeting in May 2022 there has been 4 burials, 1 scattering of ashes and 3 cremated remains.
• Cemetery keeper reported that an old headstone had become unstable and had been removed on 14 June 2022 and placed in the park keepers shed for safety reasons. There are no contacts through which to arrange repairs therefore would the committee consider undertaking the repair works.
• At the Committee meeting on 17 November 2021, it was agreed to review the purchase of a gate and fence for the Spinney area in 6 months’ time. Do members wish to take this forward?
• The benches purchased last year have not weathered well. Going forward would the committee be happy to direct customers to an alternative supplier.
The Committee agreed that the headstone that had become unstable should be removed and placed at the side of the cemetery. This should be noted on the cemetery noticeboard stating that it was removed due to safety reasons and the date that it was removed.
The Committee agreed to review the purchase of a gate and fence for the Spinney in 6 months’ time. It was agreed that the price of materials would be extremely costly at this current time.
The Committee agreed to look at an alternative bench supplier for residents to use when purchasing the bench for the cemetery. The committee would like to keep the benches of similar appearance.
Town Hall
The Town Hall had been decorated by Councillor Mrs Redshaw for the Platinum Jubilee.
22. Update on work activity taking place in the cemeteries (old & new)
• The park keepers have reported anti-social behaviour in the Sanctum area and the police have been called on a number of occasions this year. Request to consider purchasing a security camera.
• The grass has now grown next to the extra kerbing that has recently been laid and is looking nice.
• Hay rack planters have an abundance of lovely flowers.
• General maintenance of the cemetery is all up to date and the old cemetery has been sprayed and the grass has been cut.
The Committee considered the request to purchase security cameras for the cemetery but did not wish to pursue this. It was agreed that any anti-social behaviour in the cemetery should be reported to the police.
