TOWN HALL AND CEMETERY COMMITTEE
Minutes of the meeting of Market Deeping Town Council’s Town Hall and Cemetery Committee held on Wednesday 20 May 2026 at 6.30 pm at Market Deeping Town Council, Market Deeping. Cllr Paul Hanson presided over Cllr Bob Broughton, Cllr Mrs Jones and Cllr Mrs Sked. The Deputy Clerk was also in attendance.
1. Chair’s Welcome
Cllr Hanson welcomed members to the meeting.
2. Apologies for absence
There were no apologies for absence.
3. To receive declarations of interest under the Localism Act 2011
There were no declarations of interest.
4. Minutes from the meeting held on Wednesday 4 March 2026
It was RESOLVED to accept the minutes of Wednesday 4 March 2026 as a true and accurate record. The Chair signed the minutes.
5. Clerk’s report
The Deputy Clerk informed the members of the following:
Cemetery
• Since the last meeting on 4 March 2026 there had been 5 scattering of ashes.
• At a recent Amenities and Open Spaces Committee they considered a request from a resident who would like to install a half gate on the cemetery driveway to reduce unauthorized vehicles. The resident would cover the cost and organise the work. The committee agreed to the resident’s request and the park-keepers would be provided with the code.
Town Hall
• The new curtains in the Council Chamber had been installed and were looking very nice.
Clerks to chase up the curtain draw rods which was not fitted at the time of the installation as the company did not have any in stock.
Cllr Broughton will be installing Perspex behind the unit to protect the curtains from getting stained from refreshments. It was also agreed to remove the large water urn from the council chamber whilst not in use.
6. Update on work activity taking place in the cemeteries (old & new)

Reported that an unauthorized stone had been placed on a burial plot and is not in keeping with the council’s policy. Members to consider if contact should be made with the family. |
The Committee agreed that as the next meeting is due to be held at the cemetery this will be viewed and considered at that meeting. |
7. Correspondence received up to 20 May 2026
There was no correspondence.
8. Finances: Omega reports: Review of budget/expenditure/income
The Deputy Clerk had presented a copy of the Omega report to all members prior to the meeting. Cllr Hanson asked
if there were any questions and there were none.
9. For members to consider the cemetery fees for 2026/2027
It was RESOLVED unanimously to increase the Scattering of Ashes with a plaque (Mon – Fri) from £280 to £300 and increase the Scattering of Ashes with a plaque (Saturday morning) from £347 to £367. It was agreed all other cemetery fees would not be increased for 2026/2027.
10. For members to consider quotes for the cemetery gates.
Two quotes had been received and it was RESOLVED unanimously to proceed with one of the quotes. The new gates will be pre galvanized and powder coated black Ral 9005. All fence/gates posts will be concreted in firmly into the ground. The existing fence and gates will be removed and disposed of and upon completion the area will be left clean and tidy and all safety barriers etc will be removed from site. A 20% deposit is required as they will be bespoke manufactured.
11. For members to consider inviting schools to visit the Town Hall (DJ)
It was RESOLVED unanimously that Cllr Mrs Jones will write to local schools and Interact Group inviting them to visit the Town Hall.
12. For members to consider and discuss any points raised in the Open Session
There were no items discuss.
13. To consider items for inclusion on the agenda for the next meeting of the Town Hall and Cemetery Committee
• Unauthorised memorial rock in the cemetery
Cllr Hanson thanked everyone for their attendance and closed the meeting at 6.45pm. The next date for the Town Hall and Cemetery Committee meeting is scheduled for Wednesday 15th July at the Cemetery.
