TOWN HALL AND CEMETERY COMMITTEE

 

Minutes of the meeting of Market Deeping Town Council’s Town Hall and Cemetery Committee held on Wednesday 4 March 2026 at 6.15 pm at Market Deeping Town Council, Market Deeping.  Cllr Paul Hanson presided over Cllr Mrs Jones and Cllr Bob Broughton.  The Deputy Clerk was also in attendance.  

 

12.  Chair’s Welcome

Cllr Hanson welcomed members to the meeting.   

 

13.  Apologies for absence

Apologies of absence were received from Councillor Mrs Sked prior to the meeting.

 

14.  To receive declarations of interest under the Localism Act 2011

There were no declarations of interest.

 

15.  Minutes from the meeting held on Wednesday 5 November 2025

It was RESOLVED to accept the minutes of Wednesday 5 November 2025 as a true and accurate record.   The Chair signed the minutes.

 

16.  Clerk’s report

The Deputy Clerk informed the members of the following:

Cemetery

 

• Since the last meeting on 5 November 2025 there had been 2 burials and 4 scattering of ashes.

 

Town Hall

 

• Fire extinguishers located at the Town Hall and the Park-keepers shed were inspected in February 2026 and no faults were found.

• The new kitchen at the Town Hall has been completed.  Donation of a fridge, toaster and microwave was gratefully received. 

• Three quotes were obtained regarding new curtains in the Town Hall’s Council Chamber.  Full Council considered the quotes on 11 February and agreed to proceed with one company.  Councillors are now considering the material colour which will be fire retardant.  

 

Cllr Mrs Jones suggested that it would be useful to try and engage with youngsters and encourage them to consider becoming a councillor, it would also be an opportunity to showcase the Town Hall.  Cllr Hanson would like to invite both the secondary and primary schools in Market Deeping once the new curtains are in place. 

 

17.  Update on work activity taking place in the cemeteries (old & new)

 

Committee Comments

Cemetery maintenance is up to date.

The Committee noted.

Cemetery benches and crosses that required painting has been carried out over the winter months.

The Committee noted.

Topiary has been trimmed.

The Committee noted.

Members to consider in placing a gentle reminder at the Spinney with regards to memorabilia.    

The Committee agreed that a gentle reminder could be placed in the Spinney.

Resident

Non-resident of Market Deeping enquiring about the options available for cremated remains. 

Would it be possible to lease a Sanctum niche and waiver the triple fees?

Scattering of ashes is available to non-residents and same price as Market Deeping residents.

Interment of cremated remains for non-residents is by permission of the Chair and Clerk and triple fees applies. 

The committee agreed that should the family wish to lease a Sanctum niche the triple fees would be waived on this occasion.

If the family wishes to have an interment of cremated remains, triple fees would apply.

19.  Finances: Omega reports: Review of budget/expenditure/income

The Deputy Clerk had presented a copy of the Omega report to all members prior to the meeting.  Cllr Hanson asked 

if there were any questions and there were none.  

 

20.  For members to consider replacing the cemetery gates

It was RESOLVED unanimously to obtain three quotes for black railings and wood so a comparison could be made.  Cllr Hanson requested that this is considered for the Precept next year.

 

21. For members to consider and discuss any points raised in the Open Session.

There were no items to discuss.

Cllr Hanson thanked everyone for their attendance and closed the meeting at 6.35pm. The next date for the Town Hall and Cemetery Committee meeting is to be advised.
