Borehole and Town Centre car park update.
Whilst the work undertaken to repair the borehole in the Market Place has unfortunately not been entirely successful it has resulted in the flow of water being reduced and currently more controlled. Considerable work continues behind the scenes to identify the best course of action that ensures the borehole is successfully sealed and that the Market Place is returned to full use as quickly as possible whilst doing everything possible to avoid a repeat of the emergency situation we experienced before Easter.
This is a complex and unusual situation, especially given the location in the Town Centre.
The Highway Authority are working with specialist independent hydrogeologists to review the options and decide the best way forward. We continue to have a regular dialogue with them and once we know more, we will provide a further update. We will also ensure we share as much information as we possibly can with regard to what the agreed action is and any potential disruption to the Market Place as a result.
One of the significant issues has been the disruption to parking available in the Market Place as a result of the fenced off area around the borehole. We are pleased to be able to advise that we have today spoken to Highways and they are looking to reduce the fenced area as soon as possible providing access to considerably more parking spaces. We are hoping this could well be as early as next week.
Please be assured we are working closely with The Highway Authority and have highlighted all the potential issues and impacts to our town that need to be factored in to any resolution agreed. We are all extremely keen to avoid further disruption to local businesses and residents but we must also ensure that any solution is safe and provides as much longevity as is possible.
We thank you for your continued patience, we want nothing more than to get our Market Place back to normal.
